Experimenting with Organisational Patterns: Games to Enhance Business Agility
In this interactive workshop, participants will explore how different organisational structures impact business agility through games. Drawing on Frederic Laloux's "Reinventing Organizations" and the Competing Values Framework, this session will offer insights into how organisations can adapt their strategies in response to various challenges.
Participants will experience firsthand how different scaling patterns—from hierarchical, top-down models to more adaptive, decentralised structures—affect an organisation’s ability to innovate and respond to change. We’ll briefly touch on parallels with primate social structures and human tribes, highlighting how flexibility and cooperation are vital for survival and success.
The workshop is hands-on, with teams experimenting with strategic alignment techniques like Hoshin Kanri and OKRs. A card-based game will simulate organisational challenges, allowing participants to adapt their strategies and structures in real-time.
Seminar-style discussions will encourage reflection on the pros and cons of each organisational pattern, emphasising that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution in business—just the right pattern for the right situation. This workshop is ideal for those looking to deepen their understanding of business agility while exploring the human side of organisational dynamics.
